One classic hummus recipe transformed into 3 fun and tasty spreads. Hummus is an amazing dip or spread made from cooked, mashed chickpeas or other beans, blended with tahini, lemon juice, salt and garlic. It is popular in the Middle East and in Middle Eastern cuisine around the globe.  With just a few simple tricks, you really can make creamy smooth hummus at home and yes, we really do think it’s better than store-bought.  Try all the different variations below and let us know which one was your favorite.  Pictured here is the spinach hummus with pomegranate.

  • 2 tablespoons tahini sesame-seed paste
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground red pepper
  • 1 garlic clove chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
  • 1 fresh small pumpkin or 1 canned pumpkin
  • 1 cup spinach variation
  • 1 red bell pepper variation

  2. Place all the ingredients in a food processor, and process until smooth. Add parsley; pulse until blended. Spoon hummus into a serving bowl; sprinkle with pomegranate seeds or chili powder if desired. Serve with pita wedges.
